The answer is: very slippy!

A couple of years ago I wrote notes for a Christmas songs CD and was surprised to discover that many of them were composed in the heat of summer by song writers in an effort to cool down. This has led me to ponder whether the same has applied to wintery classical pieces and I've given myself a little task to find out what I can today (in amongst all the other things I have to do) about some cold classical pieces. I might not discover any surprises but who's to say that Sibelius wasn't sunning himself on a Hawaian beach whilst dreaming up Tapiola?!

music heard whilst ill in bed

Having been laid low with a heavy cold this past week I thought I might share some 'get well' pieces others may like to try if similarly afflicted: Chabrier Suite pastorale (Plasson); Rameau Symphonie imaginaire (Minkowski); Rachmaninov Suites for two pianos (Previn/Ashkenazy); Delius Florida Suite (Beecham) and Rossini Vocal Quartets, Trios and Duets (Lieder Quartet). I'm still not feeling much better but at least it's been fun languishing!

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog which will feature musings on matters musical, mainly classical and especially vocal.
